Sausage Balls: Make ahead Party Food

Sausage Balls are a traditional southern staple at any gathering, from parties to wedding receptions. They are a delicious cross between a biscuit and a meat ball. These  little bites have a biscuit texture with a sausage and cheese flavor that keep people reaching for more.

Make Ahead Party food

Why else do d I love these?
1) only 3 ingredients that I usually have on hand
2) I love that they can be made ahead and reheated. That means you can freeze these little guys and just pop them in the oven to reheat them right before serving time!

Today I made them for a football playoff game for my hubby and I, but the extra's will be divided into small sandwich baggies for a perfect grab and go breakfast bites for the busy week ahead!

Sausage Balls
makes approx. 5-6 dozen

Ingredients:
1 lb. sausage
2 cups baking mix ( Bisquick style) (I am using a whole wheat mix)
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3-5 Tablespoons water

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°
In large mixing bowl, place uncooked sausage, baking mix, and cheese.

Pour in 3 Tablespoons of water (reserve the rest)
Mix ingredients with your hands or in a Kitchen -Aid type mixer.
You want a moist well blended mixture, if too dry drizzle the extra tablespoons of water till forms a moist ball. (I used 5 Tablespoons total today)

Roll into 1 inch balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 10-12 minutes till baked through and lightly browned.
Serve Warm, or once cooled store in airtight container in fridge up to  approx. 3 days or freezer up to  2 months.
