Old Fashioned Baked Chocolate Pudding

This recipe for Old Fashioned Baked Chocolate Pudding is perfect for serving with a scoop of  vanilla ice cream, With it's Baked Brownie like top, and it's creamy warm pudding below, It's the perfect Valentines dessert for your family! The simple ingredients in this pudding takes you back to your grandmothers kitchen but you don't have to stand over the stove top to make it either!

In my opinion it is so much better than the overly sweetened, overly processed, from the box mixes we have gotten used to from the store.  The crispy baked brownie like top,hides the secret below! The warm, creamy homemade pudding that is scrumptious!

Trust me, the simple ingredients, the ease of letting the oven do the work... this is a must try recipe  for a late night gab session with your teenager,  Perfect on a chilly winter evening, or at my house a Sunday dessert, this is classic, will warm you heart and soul!

Sugar Free Too! I love that this homemade scoop of love, can be made sugar free as well. My husband is a type 1 (juvenile) diabetic, and think about treating a loved one to a homemade sugar free treat, that did not come from a store! Believe me, they will love it and you for doing it! just substitute a sugar free sweeter that measures out equal to sugar.

Jan's Tip: The batter on this pudding will be thick like brownie batter when you pour into your pan to bake, but after it bakes, once you sink your spoon into it; it comes out as a delicious creamy pudding! If you want a crispy crunch sweet topping, sprinkle a teaspoon of sugar across the top before baking. 

Don't have self rising flour? No worries: you can easily make your own self rising flour!

Old Fashioned Baked Chocolate Pudding:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups sugar or sugar substitute for baking
2 cups self rising flour
2 sticks butter melted
4 cups boiling water
optional: 1/2 chopped walnuts

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 °
In a large bowl: mix together cocoa and sugar
Add flour and mash out any lumps.
Add melted butter and boiling water, and mix well. Batter will be thick.
Pour into a 10x10 inch square baking dish.
Sprinkle with sugar if you want a crispy topping
Bake for 30 minutes.

Serve warm.
