Deodorizing your Crock Pot

Ever notice that your ceramic slow cooker seems to soak up the odors of what ever you were cooking last, no matter how much you clean it?  I think mine always seems to smell like pulled pork bbq!

Here is how I deodorize mine.

Baking Soda. Yep, of course, right?

I have 2 methods for you. But first make sure the crock pot is clean and dry.

1. Sprinkle baking soda generously in the crockpot.
2. Using a dry cloth, rub the baking soda over the entire inside surface of the crock pot.
3. Let sit for several hours.
4. Dump out the baking soda, and clean, rinse, and dry the crock pot.

For especially stubborn smells, or if your crock pot is older and never been deodorized:

After step 2 above.
Store crockpot in a large bag and seal it shut (a garbage bag with ends tied off  is fine)
Let sit for 24 hours.
Procede with Step 4 above.

I do this about once a quarter, but it is not necessary.
